Butterfly Space Volunteers
WHAT WE OFFERGenerally we want to attract visitors to Butterfly who want to stay longer and get involved in the local community. As such, anyone who volunteers in the community receives half-price rates at Butterfly Lodge.
There are two main ways we want to attract volunteers: Firstly we are developing Butterfly along community lines with several on-going projects and groups being initiated from the space. People can get involved in any of these on-going projects, like the nursery, the community resource centre and youth clubs, for as long or as short as they want. People with new ideas or energy can also initiate new ideas by holding workshops or demonstrating ideas on site at Butterfly. These initiatives are supported by funds raised from numerous different individuals and groups Worldwide that have supported us and continue to.
Secondly, on a different level, we are trying to work with the local Government on the ground in Nkhata Bay to try and develop a more developed and serious volunteer programme. This would be for more long-term volunteers who have relevant skills needed to build the capacity of projects and departments here in Nkhata Bay. Working with the Government on the ground we could identify areas where skills or personnel are lacking and seek t o attract these specific volunteers who would work alongside and train local people. We would hope to attract these people both through our web site and also by working with small volunteers organisations Worldwide. This scheme is still in the development phases but we hope to get it set up fully in the next year so watch this Butterfly Space!!
Anyone interested in volunteering at Butterfly can either contact us using the guestbook on this web-site and if they are interested in specific areas it may be useful to fill in the introduction form so that we can see where your interests lie.

The staff at Butterfly will provide local language lessons, in Chi Tonga or Chichewa. Communication is central to our vision at Butterfly and being able to greet and converse will be useful for everybody’s stay in Nkhata Bay.
We will particularly market the opportunities available to people planning a trip from overseas. In this way we will hopefully attract people who wish to stay for a set period of time, and have particular skills to offer.
In the long term we may look to organization like GAP who is often looking for challenges for their volunteers. Whoever comes to stay at Butterfly we will do our best to ensure it is an enjoyable and productive time and make sure people will always remember Nkhata Bay.
